Dan Faber, CPA, CA, CIRP, LIT

Partner

Dan is the founder and name partner of Faber LLP, established in Edmonton in 2000. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional and Licensed Insolvency Trustee.

Dan has three decades of experience providing individual and corporate accounting services, as well as consumer and corporate insolvency and restructuring services, for clients in a range of industries and sectors.

A leader in the community, Dan serves as the Chair for the Board of Directors of two non-profit organizations: Carus Community Trust and the PAR Foundation. He is also on the board of his church.

Peter S. Johnson, BAccS, CPA, CGA

Tax Partner

Peter is a Chartered Professional Accountant and Certified General Accountant. He practises full time in all areas of taxation, including corporate reorganizations, estate planning and cross-border tax.

Peter has more than 20 years of professional experience in public accounting, audit, tax and advisory services and has been a part of the Faber team for nearly 20 years. He has also completed the highest level of tax education in the country—the In-Depth Tax Course from CPA Canada.

When he’s not working, Peter likes to unwind by taking things apart and putting them together again. A true problem solver, he enjoys building computers and tinkering with cars and tech gadgets.

Chris T.H. Heo, CPA, CA, B.Comm.

Associate Partner

Chris has spent more than 10 years in public practice and with Faber LLP. He has a wide range of experience in accounting, audit and taxation matters for small and mid-sized businesses, non-profit organizations and municipalities. His accounting practice areas include compilation, review and audit engagements, and other matters for both individual and corporate clients. Chris earned his Bachelor of Commerce with an accounting major and finance minor from the University of Alberta.

Neil R.L. Blue, CPA, BBA

Associate Partner

Neil is a fourth-generation Public Accountant and Associate Partner at Faber LLP.

Prior to joining Faber LLP, Neil worked at a local independent accounting firm and an international accounting firm. He also previously worked with his family accounting firm, Blue Ink Accounting, and assisted with the merger of Blue Ink Accounting with Faber LLP in 2019. Neil has a passion for entrepreneurship and has received a business diploma specifically relating to entrepreneurship and innovation. Neil enjoys working with new businesses to navigate through the pain points of starting out. He works primarily with small to medium size business owners and professionals. He has also helped with succession planning when it comes to helping families pass down businesses to other family members.

In his free time, Neil is very active in the community. He is the co-founder of the Edmonton Emerging Professionals Network, a director for South-West Zone Hockey, and coaches two Junior C hockey teams. Neil is a frequent speaker at local industry and charitable events, and is heavily involved in the Multiple Sclerosis Society Edmonton Chapter, and sits on the Edmonton Council.

David Blue, PBA

Business Development

David is a Public Business Accountant (PBA) – formerly Registered Public Accountant (RPA). David is an advocate for ensuring that in addition to having financial affairs and taxes in order, every client also has their legal affairs in order. As a former managing partner at Blue Ink, David’s top priority was to support small to medium sized businesses, focus on financial statement preparation, and tax planning. Additionally, David oversaw the preparation of Canadian Personal Tax returns.

David has been an active member of Avon Glen Lodge for 30 years. He volunteers as Treasurer for several boards and committees, including The DeMolay Canadian Foundation, Avon Glen Lodge, and Dyslexia Edmonton. When he’s not at the office, David can be found reading, camping and boating.

Elio Bolanac, CPA, CA

Associate

Elio is a Chartered Professional Accountant with more than 25 years of experience. Our clients benefit from his expertise in matters of accounting, corporate reorganization, tax planning and tax optimization, estate tax and business succession planning.

Heston Cummings, CPA, CGA, BBA

Tax Manager

Heston joined Faber LLP in 2017. A senior tax accountant with more than five years’ experience in his field, he completes individual, corporate and trust tax returns for a wide variety of clients. Heston’s work is focused on specialized tax, and he is currently enrolled in the In-Depth Tax Course from CPA Canada. In his free time, he enjoys watching mixed martial arts and boxing. Heston has a Bachelor of Applied Business Administration – Accounting from NAIT.

Leo Liu, CPA, CGA & US CPA

Senior Tax Accountant

Leo graduated from the University of Concordia with a Bachelor of Commerce in accounting. As a tax accountant, he has solid experience in individual and corporate tax. He also deals with international tax including US tax. In his spare time, he enjoys playing badminton, running and travelling.

Tin Lee, CPA, CA, B.Comm.

Senior Accountant

Tin joined Faber LLP over 10 years ago, after graduating from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce in accounting. He obtained his CPA and CA designations while working at Faber LLP. Currently a senior accountant, Tin has extensive experience providing accounting and assurance services to both individual and corporate clients, as well as municipalities and non-profits. In his spare time, he enjoys playing badminton, cycling and nature sightseeing.

Evan Coupland, CPA, B.A., B.Comm.

Manager

Evan transitioned from a career in health care to accounting after receiving his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta. He joined Faber LLP five years ago and is currently a senior accountant. Evan provides a variety of accounting and assurance services to non-profit organizations and small businesses. His interests include movies, cooking and food culture.

Chris Lowther, B.Comm.

Staff Accountant

Chris graduated from MacEwan University with a Bachelor of Commerce in 2015 and began working with Faber LLP the following year. His job includes preparing corporate year-ends and personal taxes. He is currently working towards his CPA designation. In his downtime, Chris enjoys watching hockey, football and soccer.

Mandy Lee, BBA

Staff Accountant

Mandy graduated in 2014 from NAIT’s Bachelor of Business Administration program with an emphasis in accounting. While in school, she worked part-time as an accountant for a millwork company. Following graduation, she spent two years as an accounting assistant at a medical clinic. Mandy joined Faber LLP in 2016 and is currently working towards her CPA designation. As a staff accountant, she prepares company year-end/corporate taxes, personal taxes and audits. When she’s not working or studying, she plays piano, stays active with badminton and running, and occasionally competes in esports tournaments.

Carly Bolanac, B.Comm.

Staff Accountant

Carly is a recent graduate of MacEwan University and is actively working towards her CPA designation. She joined Faber LLP in late 2018, and her work includes preparing personal tax returns and corporate year-ends. When she’s not crunching numbers, Carly enjoys cycling, playing tennis or conquering a puzzle.

Stephanie Van Leeuwen, B.Comm

Staff Accountant

Stephanie graduated from MacEwan University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting. She is currently working on her CPA designation. As a staff accountant, she prepares corporate year ends and taxes, personal income tax returns, and payroll. Stephanie specializes in cloud accounting software and has certifications in QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop. In her spare time, she coaches youth bowling for children ages 3-19, is the treasurer of a cultural group, plays many sports and likes to spend time with friends and family.

Cydney Cunningham

Cloud Accounting Specialist

Cydney has over eight years of data management, accounting and payroll experience. She is currently working on her PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) designation and plans to receive her CPM (Certified Payroll Manager) designation. Cydney specializes in cloud accounting software and has certifications in QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Xero, and Receipt Bank. As the cloud accounting specialist, she works on data management and payroll for clients who use both desktop and cloud accounting software. In her spare time, she loves a good book, taking her dog Zeus on adventures, traveling and spending time with friends and family.

Lauren Bolanac, B.Comm

Marketing Director

Lauren graduated from MacEwan University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Marketing. Lauren was the co-founder and VP of Marketing for oikos Edmonton, a student-led non-profit focused on educating students about sustainability practices. She has been a panelist, speaker, competitor in case competitions, and has worked with local companies is search of marketing solutions. As Marketing Director, her role includes social media management, event planning, gathering analytics, working with externals, and essentially any other task related to Marketing. In her free time, she enjoys playing sports, socializing with friends over food, and travelling.

Alanna Phelan

Office Manager

Alanna joined Faber LLP in 2010 and has since then acquired both a Bookkeeping and Legal Assistant Diploma from MacEwan University. As an Office Manager, Alanna handles various tasks including human resources, accounts payable and receivable. When she’s not working or spending time with her four-legged fur children, Alanna enjoys coaching cheerleading to a wide range of athletes ages 4-30. She has had the pleasure of competing in numerous local, national and international competitions, and is honored to have the opportunity to compete at the USASF World Cheerleading and Dance Championships, both as an athlete and a coach, consecutively since 2013.

Thando Mbambo, B.Comm

Administrative Assistant

Thando graduated with honours from the University of Sunderland with a Bachelor of Business Management. Since moving to Edmonton, Thando completed a post-graduate diploma in Accounting and Strategic Measurement from MacEwan University in 2017. As an Administrative Assistant, she is responsible for maintaining files, preparing government remittances and various other administrative tasks. She is skilled in Sage Simply Accounting, CaseWare, QuickBooks, SAP, Practice Management and Doc.It. During her spare time she enjoys traveling back in time through history, music and African literary works.
